After many years as a counselor and a non-profit leader, I took a leap to figure out what was next for my career and found my way to professional coaching. From my very first experiences coaching, I was blown away at the impact I saw it making for people - their shift in energy, their gain in momentum and their undeniable relief. In my initial conversations, I heard words like stuck, lost and overwhelmed and after working together, clients described feeling excited, confident, motivated and hopeful. That's when I knew coaching was for me.
What is coaching? It's a partnership, a collaboration. It's about action, direction and focus. It provides SPACE to identify what you want, and it provides the structure, support and environment to help you get there. One client compared it to having a trainer for her life and another to having an excavator who helped her dig through a big messy pile, find the gems and decide where to put them.
Coaching also saves time. How? Because it helps us get out of patterns of overthinking and spinning that take up so much energy (I've been there!) and it encourages us to live our lives focused on what matters most to us.
How Do You Know if Coaching is Right for You?
It's important to know that coaching is not counseling, psychotherapy or healthcare, and it's not a substitute for any of those services. If you are experiencing a mental health concern, seek care with a practicing counselor, therapist or other healthcare provider.
If you are seeking personal or professional development or growth and answer yes to these or similar questions, coaching could be very beneficial for you.
Do you need or want support following through on a plan, goal or dream?
Do you have a vision but finding it difficult to gain traction?
Do you notice the same questions circling around in your mind?
Are you having trouble making a decision or knowing what you want?
Do you have questions about what's next professionally?
Do you know that something needs to be different but you don't know what?
Are you unhappy or unsatisfied in your career?
Do you find that your life and your most important values aren't lining up the way they used to?
Do you like the idea of having a collaborator and partner to help you with your journey and next steps?
What is Coaching and What Can It Do for You?
I put in my two weeks’ notice last week, and I accepted a job that will bring me a lot of purpose. I am really grateful for everything, Amy! I think this couldn’t have worked out better. I feel hopeful and excited. This makes me want to take on the other big changes I’ve been longing for and tackle them now. I have a more “live the life you want now,” energy and motto going at the moment, and I think that’s really healthy for me. I want to trust my energy-meter and my general desires more, and this time has been a good test; it’s shown me I can trust my instincts.
